All About Editors: What You Really Need to Know

What does an editor really do? How do you connect with them? And what should you know about the editorial process as an author? In this presentation, freelance editor Julie Romeis Sanders will share insights from her twenty years of experience working with childrens book writers and illustrators. Then, she will open the floor for discussion so you can ask your burning questions about the creative process, submitting your work, and what happens once you get that coveted contract.

JULIE ROMEIS SANDERS has over twenty years of experience working in childrens books as an editor, bookseller, and workshop instructor. From 2001 to 2012 she was an editor for Bloomsbury Childrens Books and Chronicle Books, where she collaborated with many best-selling and award-winning creators including Aaron Reynolds, Victoria Jamieson, Rick Yancey, Dan Santat, and Laura Numeroff. She also edited the Caldecott Honor book Flora and the Flamingo by Molly Idle. For the past eight years, Julie has been an independent developmental editor as well as a workshop creator and leader, helping writers make their books the best they can be with creative, constructive, collaborative feedback at every stage of their career. Julie lives in Bend, Oregon with her family and more books than she has room for in her house.
