September Webinar Presenter: Deborah Hopkinson

September Topic: SHAPING STORIES: Tips For Finding The Right Form For Your Ideas

You’ve stumbled upon a fabulous idea. It’s a story you’re committed to telling. But what is the best way in? Should it be a historical fiction or nonfiction picture book? Or maybe it’s best told as a middle grade novel or page-turning narrative nonfiction? Might it actually be best as an early reader?

Much of the time, the shape for an idea is a matter of trial and error, but before devoting hours, weeks, or months to a project, there are some key questions that can help you find the right form for your idea. This session will provide tools and tips to help you assess an idea, your sources, your strengths as a writer—and, yes, the market. The goal: less time spent flailing and frustrated, and more time writing books that sell. Deborah will offer insights and provide guiding questions. The presentation will be followed with a Q&A.

She recently sold her first early reader series–after failing to sell the topic in a picture book format. Connect with her work at:
